James
Johnstone
James Johnstone is an Interdisciplinary (ID) Applied Sports
Scientist. James has specific interests within the area of exercise
physiology - fitness screening/assessment/monitoring, training
programmes, strength and conditioning. Additionally the complex areas of
recovery from performance, talent identification and coaching/role of
the coach link closely to the ID approach James takes to his
work.
After graduating with Honours in Sports Studies from University
College Chichester James progressed on to post-graduate study within
sport. Firstly at De Montfort University Bedford where he completed a
Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Physical Education and then
went on to study a MSc in Sports Science at The University of East
London.
James is also an experienced coach working with different age
groups within a variety of team games. He has a specific specialism in
cricket having played the game at a high level, being a member of the
England & Wales Cricket Coaches Association and holding a ECB level
2 award. Additionally he is a qualified HSE 1st aider and has Criminal
Record Bureau enhanced clearance. He is currently progressing through
the rigorous BASES Supervised Experience process and also developing his
PhD research area.
For the past few years James has been working as a senior
lecturer on a Sports Science programme at a university in London.
Previous clients he has provided sports science support for include
Essex County Cricket Club working within the Academy players developing
fitness assessment/monitoring protocols, strength and conditioning ideas
and plans for the team. He was also part of a support team providing
specific physiological assessment and conditioning advice for Great
Britain Korfball youth squad in the weeks leading up to the World
Championships. Also sports science support is being provided for the
elite level Great Britain Adaptive Rowers via measuring lactate
responses, heart rates and monitoring training adaptation.

Dip. Sport Therapist
Rory’s main sporting
interests are hockey, cycling and skiing. The latter taken to a
level where he can tackle any slope the mountains have to offer.
However, with such a high impact activity, done over many years, comes
the wear and tear! It was during a treatment for a slight back
injury that Rory’s interest in remedial therapy started. This
interest grew until, after working in a family business for over 17
years, a career change took place.
After studying at the
Raworth, (one of the top Sports Therapy colleges in the country) Rory
now has a Diploma in Advanced Clinical Sports Therapy, Sports Massage
(level 4) and Remedial Bodywork.
During his training he
spend valuable time working at Harlequins RFC, and Fulham FC.
Rory has a successful
clinic in Dorking, Surrey, and an increasing
number of private clients, ranging from international athletes to the
weekend jogger. He has also spent the past two seasons working at
Surrey County Cricket Club as their Sports Massage Therapist.
Rory can
give advice on injury prevention, sports nutrition, injury
rehabilitation and fitness training/testing.
Additionally he is a
qualified FA 1st aider and has Criminal Record Bureau
clearance.

Richard Beale (Sport & Exercise First Aid
Training)
Richard has been involved in performing arts for most of his
life. Richard studied performing arts at Middlesex University
where he learned about the principles of training and gained a strong
awareness of the physical requirements of being involved in an area
where fitness is imperative. This gives Richard a full
understanding of the areas where those working in a sport and exercise
environment are likely to need to assist with First Aid support.
Richards courses are designed specifically to meet the needs of the
Sport and Exercise community.
Richard has been providing First Aid training for the past 3
years and to our knowledge is the only person able to run a 4 day First
Aid at work course that is specific to Sport and Exercise where
successful candidates are awarded the Register of Exercise Professionals
(REPs) 24 continued professional development (CPD) hours. Richard
also runs
First Aid Courses:

course:
Features: 24 REPs CPD points and HSE endorsed First Aid at work
status obtained on successful completion. This
Certificate lasts 3 years, after which a 2-day refresher course is
required

1 day Sport & Exercise Specific Appointed Persons First
Aid Course:
Features: Basic First Aid course specifically designed for the
Sport and Exercise community successful completion provides the
candidate with HSE appointed person status. Certification lasts
for 3 years after which candidates are required to complete another
course

Maximum number of candidates: 16
