David entered into the area of Sport and Exercise Psychology from an football and exercise background. Prior to this David’s’ career he followed two paths; several years were spent working in the fitness industry as a personal trainer where he held Advanced Instructor (Level 3) status with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs).
David also managed a clinical exercise programme where is oversaw the running and development of exercise programmes for those suffering from cardiovascular, pulmonary or metabolic conditions. David has also spent many years working in Football especially in an officiating capacity.
David has found this process invaluable and feels it has given him an advantage over many other sport psychologists in this field as it provides him with a depth of understanding for using a variety of techniques across a broad range of disciplines to help people achieve a higher level of performance.
Qualifications:
- A Master of Science Degree (MSc) in Sport & Exercise Psychology from University College Chichester
- A Bachelor of Science Honours Degree (BSc Hons) in Sport and Exercise science from University of East London
- Various Exercise Qualification specialising in exercise for those people with Chronic Health Conditions.
- David is undergoing supervised experience as a Sport and Exercise scientist (psychology – scientific support) with the British Association of Sport & Exercise Sciences (BASES).
Sport Psychology Experience:
David has worked in a variety of sports, across a range of sporting levels. He specialises in the field of sport teams and sport professionals. James has worked in Football with referees up to semi professional levels, Club Cricket, International and Club Korfball, International Masters Athletics and regional athletics. David also regularly works with referees at all level as a multi discipline sport scientist at all level to both improve performance and quality of life.
David is a part time Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Science at the University of East London. David lectures on a variety of subjects across Sport and Exercise Science programme including Psychology, Fitness Assessment, Research Methods and Exercise for those with Chronic Health Condition.
David currently works in football, training and developing referees from grassroots right up to semi professional levels. David is accredited by the games governing body to instruct, and assess on their behalf.
David has previously worked on committees of both the BASES and the Football Association where he took an active role in developing sports and exercise science as a discipline
Personal:
David has been a qualified referee for 27 years and currently referees and assesses on the FA National Futsal League. When David is not engaged in Football, he enjoys playing golf.
